St. Francis of Assisi Parade and Picnic

Norman Heimos is no newcomer to the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Oakville, Missouri. Norman is the last original parishioner remaining from the beginnings of the 1927 Catholic Church. He remembers at age 5, walking in the very first parade celebrating the laying of the corner stone.  That parade began just south of the church building at the now razed Oakville Farmers Club.  The Club located at Yaeger and Telegraph Roads was an important social meeting place consisting of a large dance hall building situated on 5 acres of picnic grounds.

Now some 80 years later he is still participating in the Parishes’ School Picnics. Norman and his Banjo playing partner Dick Lucas entertained thousands of parade watchers as the 1936 Dodge Woody driven by Greg R. Rhomberg crawled along the parade route. Everyone along the route enjoyed the music and smiling gestures from Norm and Dick.

May it also be known that Norman and his wife Jackie Heimos have been a great inspiration to the founding of Greg R. Rhomberg’s Antique Warehouse. When Greg was a teenager he would take trips to various Heimos owned farms around the area with Norman and recover many interesting items from tractors, trucks, to antique stoves and farm implements.
